Emily Dickinson laiškai pasauliui (II)

Tiems, kurie pajuto sieloj švelniai gilų skonį, skaitydami Emily Dickinson eiles, štai dar šiek tiek medaus, kurį bitutės atnešė iš jos žaliuojančių lankų…

Čia tai – ką šiandien tau nešu –
Tik tai, ir dar širdis –
Tik tai, širdis, ir dar laukai,
Ir pievų šiugždesys.

Skaičiuok verčiau – pamirščiau jei –
Skaičius kažkas žinos.
Tik tai, širdis ir bitės dar,
Kur glaudžias dobiluos.

It’s all I have to bring today –
This, and my heart beside –
This, and my heart, and all the fields –
And all the meadows wide –

Be sure you count – should I forget
Some one the sum could tell –
This, and my heart, and all the Bees
Which in the Clover dwell.

Sugniaužus galią kumšty, prieš
Pasaulį sukilau.
Nors stigo Dovydo jėgos,
Tačiau drąsi buvau.

Jau akmeniuką savo sviest
Norėjau, bet kritau.
Ar „Galijotas“ – per stambus,
Ar aš maža buvau?

*****

Kaskart už džiaugsmo mirksnį
Sumokam kančiomis –
Aštriom, kaip ir ekstazėj
Patirtas jaudulys.

Už laimės valandėlę –
Kasmet skurdi alga –
Rungtynės dėl skatiko
Ir ašarų skrynia!

*****

Aštri akis pamišime
Įžvelgia išmintį,
Sveikam prote – aršiausią pamišimą.
Bet daugumos valia –
Kaip visad – viršų ima.
Pritark – ir jau protingas tu esi.
Paprieštarauk – ir tapsi pavojingas.
Tave grandinėmis supančios jie visi.

*****

Tai ne mirtis – aš pakilau.
Numiręs juk guli.
Ir ne naktis – dienos varpų
Liežuviai iškišti.

Ne šaltis – kūnu pajutau
Siroko glamones
Ne karštis – pėdom vėsinau
Altoriaus marmurą.

Bet rodės – tikra visa tai.
Fantomai eilute
Rikiavosi laidoti kažką –
Sakytumei mane.

Ir būčiau nuobliuota,
Į rėmus įsprausta,
Be rakto į gyvenimą,
Tartum vidurnakty –

Kai nieko tiksinčio aplink –
Tik dėbsanti erdvė –
Ar kai rytais rudens šalna
Naikina juodžemį.

Chaosas šaltakraujiškas –
Be šanso ar skersinio,
Ir be žinios iš sausumos –
Tvirtina neviltį.

*****

„Viltis“ – plunksnotas daiktas,
O siela – jos gūžta.
Bežodę giesmę gieda ji,
Vis nenutildama.

Audroj – melodingiausia.
Aršios prireiks audros
Paukštelei pabaidyt, kuri
Tiek įžiebė aistros.

Girdėjau ją žvarbiuos kraštuos
Ir jūroj svetimoj,
Nė trupinio ji iš manęs
Neprašė net bėdoj.

*****

Platesnis protas nei dangus.
Sudėsi juos draugėn –
Nesunkiai vienas kitame
Sutilps – ir tu išvien.

Gilesnis protas už marias.
Jų mėlį šalimais
Sudėjus – tarsi kempine
Jas sugeria tasai.

Pasvėrus kruopščiai, protas svers
Vienodai su Dievu.
O jei ir skirsis kiek – tai tiek,
Kiek žodis nuo garsų.

*****

O sako „Laikas gydo“!
Negydo, niekuomet.
Tikra kančia rambėja
It sausgyslės kasmet.

O laikas – tai išbandymas
Nelaimėj ir varguos.
Jei vaistas būtų jis, tuomet
Neliktų ir ligos.

*****

Ji krito mano akyse –
Žemai – lig pat grindų.
Sudužo mano sąmonės
Dugne ant akmenų.

Bet lemtį, ją nubloškusią,
Mažiau vainojau aš,
Negu save, taip mėgusią
Auksuotas lėkštutes.

*****

Kas rojaus žemai nerado,
Tas jo ir aukštai neras –
Angelai juk nuomojas namą
Visąlaik šalimais tavęs.

*****

Rėžk tiesą – bet netiesmukai –
Sėkmė užuolankoj.
Jos nušvitimas per ryškus
Akiai netobulai.

Prie žaibo kūdikis pripras,
Jei švelniai aiškinsi.
Kad neapaktum, prie tiesos
Pratinkis laipsniškai.

*****

Žodis tartas
Miršta, – sako
Kai kas.

O aš sakau, –
Gyvybė jo
Pabus.

I took my Power in my Hand –
And went against the World –
‘Twas not so much as David – had –
But I – was twice as bold –

I aimed my Pebble – but Myself
Was all the one that fell –
Was it Goliath – was too large –
Or was myself – too small?

*****

For each ecstatic instant
We must an anguish pay
In keen and quivering ratio
To the ecstasy.

For each beloved hour
Sharp pittances of years –
Bitter contested farthings –
And Coffers heaped with Tears!

*****

Much Madness is divinest Sense –
To a discerning Eye –
Much Sense – the starkest Madness –
‘Tis the Majority
In this, as All prevail –
Assent – and you are sane –
Demur – you’re straightway dangerous –
And handled with a Chain –

*****

It was not Death, for I stood up,
And all the Dead, lie down –
It was not Night, for all the Bells
Put out their Tongues, for Noon.

It was not Frost, for on my Flesh
I felt Siroccos – crawl –
Nor Fire – for just my Marble feet
Could keep a Chancel, cool –

And yet, it tasted, like them all,
The Figures I have seen
Set orderly, for Burial,
Reminded me, of mine –

As if my life were shaven,
And fitted to a frame,
And could not breathe without a key,
And ’twas like Midnight, some –

When everything that ticked – has stopped
And Space stares all around –
Or Grisly frosts – first Autumn morns,
Repeal the Beating Ground –

But, most, like Chaos – Sopless – cool –
Without a Chance, or Spar –
Or even a Report of Land –
To justify – Despair.

*****

“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –

And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And some must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –

I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet, never, in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of Me.

*****

The Brain – is wider than the Sky –
For – put them side by side –
The one the other will contain
With ease – and You – beside –

The Brain is deeper than the sea –
For – hold them – Blue to Blue –
The one the other will absorb –
As Sponges – Buckets – do –

The Brain is just the weight of God –
For – Heft them – Pound for Pound –
And they will differ – if they do –
As Syllable from Sound –

*****

The say that “Time assuages” –
Time never did assuage –
An actual suffering strengthens
As Sinews do, with age –

Time is a Test of Trouble –
But not a Remedy –
If such it prove, it prove too
There was no Malady –

*****

It dropped so low – in my Regard –
I heard it hit the Ground –
And go to pieces on the Stones
At bottom of my Mind –

Yet blamed the Fate that flung it – less
Than I denounced Myself,
For entertaining Plated Wares
Upon my Silver Shelf –

*****

Who has not found Heaven – below –
Will fail of it above –
For Angels rent the House next ours,
Wherever we remove –

*****

Tell all the Truth tell it slant –
Success in Circuit lies
Too bright for our infirm Delight
The Truth’s superb surprise

Al Lightning to the Children eased
With explanation kind
The Truth must dazzle gradually
Or every man be blind –

*****

A word is dead
When it is said,
Some say.

I say it just
Begins to live
That day.
